Padre Island Daybreak Meditation
Allyson Davidson
Gulf waves
rumble in
hush - crash
trickle - slide
out to sea
gulls, white dots
between island
and ocean —
twig legs tuck
up and back
wings unfold
— lift —
— hover —
— glide —
back to the line
shells in flotillas
arrive on a swell
hues, fawn to pearl
soft on the glisten
depart on a roll
water surrounds ankles
toes melt into sand
layers shred
tatters peel away
on a breeze
Gulf waves
rumble in
hush - crash
trickle - slide
out to sea
