Susan Lendroth

Susan writes picture books. Her latest, "Piper and Purpa Forever," concerns a little girl who doesn't want to outgrow her favorite sweater. She enjoys writing for Short Edition, especially when the ewes in "Farmer Renaud's Rainbow Sheep" say "Beee" instead of "Baaa" in the Italian version. Beeee! Who can walk today
when leaves leapfrog across the boulevard
and swirl recklessly round each passing car?
My feet dance across the sidewalk,
exploring invisible hopscotch trails
like errant children,
crunching gutter drifts
in explosions of sap-dried
skeletons of summer.
Can't you feel it,
the racing pulse of October?
